Spark Ads vs. Non-Spark TikTok Ads: Which Wins for Brands

Spark Ads run from a creator's handle. Non-Spark ads run from yours. We've tested both at scale — here's what we keep coming back to.

On TikTok, you have two ways to put paid spend behind creator content: Spark Ads (run from the creator's handle) or non-Spark ads (run from your brand handle using their content with usage rights). Both work. They don't work for the same things.

Spark Ads

Spark Ads inherit the creator's social proof — comments, follows, shares — and the ad shows up as a native post on their profile. They tend to win on hook rate and watch-through because the algorithm reads them as organic-adjacent.

Non-Spark

Non-Spark ads give you full creative control. You can re-edit, splice multiple creators together, and route everything through one brand-managed identity. They're easier to optimize at scale but lose the "this is from a real person" signal.

Our default

Run Spark Ads for top-of-funnel prospecting. Run non-Spark for retargeting and conversion-focused campaigns where creative iteration speed matters more than the handle.

Get the rights right

For Spark Ads you need the creator's Spark code per post. For non-Spark, you need explicit paid-usage rights in your contract — most creator templates don't include them by default.
