Micro-Influencer vs. Macro-Influencer Launches: Which Wins?
20 micros at $500 each, or one macro at $10K? It depends — and the answer might surprise you.
The micro-vs-macro debate is mostly answered by your launch goal. Here's the framework.
When macros win
Goal: cultural moment. You need a single voice with the cultural authority to anchor your launch as the thing happening this week. Macros deliver.
Goal: cold-traffic reach. One million followers, one post, instant top-of-funnel. Hard for 20 micros to match in a single day.
Goal: brand association. The macro's brand transfers to yours. Sometimes that's worth a $10K post.
When micros win
Goal: conversion. Micro-audiences have 5–8x the engagement rate and convert at 2–3x the rate per impression.
Goal: cost per acquisition. Spread across 20 creators, the same $10K typically delivers 3–4x the attributed revenue of a single macro post.
Goal: content volume. 20 creator posts = 20 content assets you can use as paid creative for 60 days post-launch. One macro post = one asset.
The hybrid
Most strong launches use both. One macro for the cultural moment, 15–20 micros for conversion + content. Macro budget is roughly 30–40% of total, micros are 60–70%.
What to measure
Don't compare them on the same metric. Macros are measured on reach, sentiment, and brand lift. Micros on attribution, CPA, and content output. Different KPIs.
