Engagement Rate

The percentage of a creator's audience that interacts with a given post — likes, comments, shares, saves divided by followers or reach.

Definition

Engagement rate is the most-cited and most-misused metric in influencer marketing. There are two common definitions: engagement / followers, and engagement / reach. The second is more meaningful but less common because reach data is harder to access.

Healthy engagement rates vary by tier — nano creators often see 5–15%, micros 3–8%, macros 0.5–2%. Anything dramatically above the tier benchmark may indicate engagement pods or fake activity and should be audited.

Example

A 40K-follower micro-creator averages 4.2% engagement (1,680 interactions per post) — strong for the tier and a green light for a paid collab.
