User-Generated Content (UGC)

Content produced by creators or customers — often delivered to the brand with usage rights but without a post on the creator's own feed.

Also known as: Rights-only creator content, Creator-produced ad creative

Definition

UGC in the modern paid-social context usually refers to content shot by a creator and licensed to the brand for use in ads, rather than posted to the creator's own channel. It's effectively production at influencer rates — the brand gets a TikTok-native asset for a fraction of a traditional production cost.

UGC is the fastest way to fix a paid-social account where studio-shot creative is fatiguing. Most brands need a steady pipeline of fresh UGC to keep CPMs stable, especially on TikTok and Reels.

Example

A DTC food brand commissions 12 UGC pieces a month at $400 each — the assets run as Meta Advantage+ ads and rotate weekly to keep creative fresh.
