Usage Rights

Permission for a brand to repurpose creator content — in ads, on the brand's owned channels, in stores, or in CRM.

Definition

Usage rights cover three independent dimensions: where the content can be used (paid social, owned, in-store, CRM, web), for how long (often 3–12 months), and where geographically. Each dimension carries an incremental fee. The default in most creator contracts is no rights beyond the post on the creator's own feed.

Programmatic brands negotiate usage rights into every contract by default. Ad hoc rights deals after-the-fact are expensive, slow, and frequently denied.

Example

A brand negotiates 12-month global paid-social usage rights on top of a $5K creator fee for a $1.5K uplift, then runs the post as Partnership Ads for the full year.
